Long cylindrical traps weare called hina`i`o`opu used in fresh water streams and set without bait. Women and children use the baskets near shore or in kahawai or fresh water streams. The o'opu is a curious fish and would often swiminto the basket or sometimes they were chased into the basket by beating the water. Once the fish swam into the trap the women would cover the opening with their hand and lift the basket out of the water. | |||||
