A jig is a type of fishing lure that looks like small fish. Jigging is a method of fishing where a lure is cast or lowered into the water and then retrived in short jerking motions. This is done so that the jig appears like natural bait moving through the water.

Not to be confused with whipping which is done with more of a sideways movement, jigging is done with an up and down motion.

Jigging in Kailua Bay can bring in papio (young giant trevally), opelu (mackerel scad), akule (big-eyed scad) and menpachi.
