The throw net is a circular net with weights all around it's edges. The throw net can be used for catching fish and crustaceans. The throw net got its name from the way it is used which is to "throw" the net out and over your target.

The throw net is best suited for smooth bottom areas where it won't get caught or ripped. In Kailua Bay the most popular place to fish is off the bridges. This is because you can look down down on your target. It can also be thrown from the shore or a boat.

Some fish you might catch in Kailua Bay using a throw net are; mullet, aholehole, and tilapia along with others. You also might catch crabs.

There are laws concerning the size of the mesh in the net. The legal size of the mesh is two inches or over. The reason for this is so all of the baby fish can get away. If these laws are followed there will be fish for fishermen in the future.
