Alena Boerhavia repens
The alena plant is an indigenous species and is common on Popoi'a
or Flat Island as well as most of the offshore islands. Alena has
white blossoms cascading out of its stem. It grows well in coastal
areas. Alena has sticky fruits. The blossoms are beautiful.
Alena was brought
to Hawaii from birds because of the sticky seeds. Alena has one to
two stamens sticking out of the center
of the blossom. It is a bushy plant with branches with small, round
leaves surrounded with creamy white blossoms.
