Did you know the Giant Grouper is an ambush predator that waits with its mouth open on the ocean floor?


Description • There are 400 species of Groupers varying in size. The Giant Grouper can get up to 8 feet in length and can weigh over 400 pounds and is one of the largest reef-dwelling fish. It is one of only two groupers native to Hawaii, but is rarely seen.

Habitat •
The Grouper lives in reefs throughout the world in waters from 15 to 150 feet in depth. It camouflages itself with its surroundings.

Diet • Giant Groupers eat spiny lobsters, reef fish, small sea turtles, small sharks and zoo plankton which are swallowed whole. It patrols on the bottom of the ocean and waits for its prey.
