Nerite polita linnaeus

Description • The commonly found Kupe'e has a thick gray shell but sometimes you may find one that is yellow red striped, white, orange and pink spotted. The shell grow up to an inch and a half in length. The shell is thick, solid, smooth and polished. Ancient Hawaiians used this shell for decorating clothes.

Habitat • The Polished Nerite lives in the sand near the high tide line.

Diet • At night the Polished Nerite climbs up on the rocks to eat the seaweed.
