Downtown Honolulu and Waikiki rest on a
fossil reef that is made up of Finger Coral.


Description • One of the two most common corals in Hawaii Finger Coral can form beds that reach acres in size. Colonies are usually light brown, yellowish or blue-gray. This fast growing it can outcompete other corals in desired environment.

Habitat • The Finger Coral is found throughout the reef in shallow water in wave protected areas that are 0 to 50 inches in depth or deeper in areas that are turbulent. Finger Coral also provides important habitat for juvenille fishes.

Diet •. The Finger Coral feeds on plankton.
