Description • The Lizardfish got its name from its lizard like look and movement and are 9 to 13 inches in length. They have black eyes, a big mouth, short tail and come in a variety of colors. However, they can all camouflage themselves to match their surroundings. Sixteen of the fifty species are found in Hawaii.

Habitat • The Lizardfish lives by the reef and goes under the sand to protect itself.

Diet • The lizardfish eats smaller fish like the clown fish, butterflyfish and other small fishes. They bury themselves in the sand up to their eyes which are positioned high on their head. When their preys comes within 5 to 6 feet the Lizardfish will push against the sand quickly dart forward and grab the treat.
