This species of Slipper Lobster is protected by seasons and "no take" laws for lobsters under a certain size and those lobsters with eggs.


Scyllarides Squamosus

Description • Slipper Lobsters have no claws or long spines and their body is flattened like a shovel. They have a heavy armour and also rely on camouflage for protection. Their flattened body allows them to cling to the rock walls or cave roofs. Their eyes are in sockets within the head. They grow in lengths from 7 to 19 inches.

Habitat • Found in shallow waters in the reef. During the day they seek shelter in caves and crevices . At night they come out from their shelter to look for food in the reef.

Diet •. Slipper Lobsters eat mollusks and other reef invertebrates.
