Description The Soldierfish have 11 or 12 spines and grow to 6.5 inches long. Soldier fish are orange-reddish color with large rough scales, and spiny fins. They have very big eyes, and an upturned mouth. They are nocturnal. creatures who hide in caves or under ledges during the day and come out at night to hunt. The Bigscale soldierfish is the largest of the species in Hawai'i. Early Hawaiians considered Habitat The Soldierfish lives below 20 feet to 60 feet down in the sea. They live in caves and under ledges. Diet The Soldierfish eat large plankton such as crab larvae.
