'Ala'ihi is also the name of a deep-red sugar cane.

Sargocentron xantherythrum

Description • The most common squirrelfish this grows to about 6.5 inches in length. Their red body is covered with long narrow white silvery stripes. They are nocturnal and have large eyes.
Habitat • Found in reefs they tend to hide in caves or beneath ledges during the day and come out to look for food during the night.

Diet •. Feed mainly on benthic crustaceans.
