The Whitetip Reef Shark is often prey to the larger Tiger Shark.


Triaenodon obesus

Description • Body slender with a very broad and flatted head and a rounded snout. The body is grayish brown with the tips of the first dorsal and upper tail fins are white. The downward slanted mouth gives this shark a mean appearance grows to be 6 feet in length.

Habitat • The Whitetip is usually found resting under ledges or in caves during the day in clear shallow waters. They will often return to the same resting area.

Diet •. The Whitetip Shark feeds on bottom-dwelling prey but feeds primarily on octopus, lobsters and crabs. It also feedso n bony fishes. Active at night it searches along the bottom substrate often jamming itself into a crevice to pursue its prey.
