Bodysurfing is a sport of riding waves with your body. Bodysurfers use no surfboard or boogieboard but need to be good swimmers and be able to time the waves. When the wave approaches the bodysurfer pushes off the ground and begins to swim as fast as possible. Once the bodysurfer gains speed the wave carries the weight of the surfer forward. One arm is stretched out forward to break the water and the bodysurfer rides as far as possible keeping in front of the break. Many surfers rotate their body and do flips while riding the wave.

A bodysurfer really doesn't need any equipment but some choose to use swim fins to help propell them faster. If the water is cold they may use a wetsuit. Big surf creates good conditions for bodysurfing but don't go bodysurfing if the waves are too big or stay in the are where there is a lot of white wash. Be careful, fancy tricks can cause injury. There are quite a few stores in Kailua Town that sell fins and wetsuits.
