Sea Kayakaing is a sport that many visitors enjoy in Kailua Bay. It involves a narrow boat pointed on both ends propelled by a rider paddling with an oar. The paddle is also used for steering the water craft left and right. There are two classifications of kayaks, those that a kayaker sits on top or those are more cockpit in style.

There are single and double seater kayaks. Most kayaks are around 18 feet in length and weigh between 50 - 70 pounds. There are some ligther models that weigh only 20 pounds!

For safety it is reccomended that kayakers wear a life jacket and should know how to swim. When kayaking over the ocean nquire about weather or currents, and be aware of changing conditions.

There are places in Kailua to rent kayaking equipment such as Hawaiian Watersports, Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks, and Twogood Kayaks of Hawaii. Many also provide lessons.
