Kite Surfing is a sport where a person stands on a board with foot straps and uses the power of a kite to propel himself and the board across the water. The kite is like an airplane wing that pulls the board up or across the water. The kites are from 3 square meters to 9 square meters and are made of lightweight material. The boards are similar in shape to a surfboard and are about 6 -7 foot in length. Some models are shaped smaller like a wakeboard. The kite and the board must be controlled at the same time. Kite surfing is the one of the newest watersports in Hawaii.

A kite system usually includes the kite, board, a control bar, lines, harness, and a backpack to carry it all. Larger kites are used in light winds and smaller ones in high winds.

Responsbile kitesurfers:
1. Surf in winds less than 10 knots.
2. Know their ability and stay within it.
3. Kite surf with at least 100 meters of clear space
4. Always have a dead-man safety release system that allows you to release the kite at any moment.
5. Never kite surf near power lines or airports.
6. Fly clear of others i n the water.
