Snorkeling is a practice of swimming in water equiped with a mask and a short tube called a snorkel. To snorkel it requires regular swimming plus training for breathing. Using a special mask with a short tube called a snorkel, and a pair of fins it is easy to learn. Selecting a mask that fits and is comfortable is important. You don't want a mask that leaks because it doesn't fit right. Fins help propell you through the water more quickly. The best conditions for snorkeling is calm, flat, and clear water.

When you are in the water, density of the materials in a divers body and equipment determine whether the diver floats or sinks. To start down, put your head down and stick your legs straight out of the water. Let gravity pull you down without moving a muscle, then start kicking to move downward. For safety, be aware of coral since some coral have sharp edges. Sea urchins are dangerous too. They have sharp spines which may have venom. Don't snorkel in rough waters. | ![]()
