Kailua Beach Park
A 30 acre beach park located on the south end of the bay. The beach front of the park is about 3/4 of a mile long.and has been rated as one of Best Beaches in Hawai'i. The white sand beach is fine and soft. The water is usually clear and shallow and a bright azure blue. It is a great location for swimming and the wide sandy beaches are great for sunbathing. It is a destination for all sorts of recreational water activities.

EPA Measuring Station
Kailua Beach is listed as a site with the Environmental Protection Agency for measuring marine water quality. Heavy storms bring a low rank due to stream run-off.
 

Ka'elepulu Stream
The mouth of this brackish waterway is usually blocked by a sandbar at Kailua Bay. The city and county regularly breach and the two waters mix. Heavy storms cause this waterway to empty polluted water runoff into the bay from the Ka'elepulu Subwatershed.

Popoi'a or Flat Island
Around 380 yards off of Kailua Beach is Flat Island. The name describes the very flat landscape which is under 4 acres. There is a small beach landing used by kayakers. It is also a State Bird Sanctuary for nesting seabirds.

Portuguese Man-o-War
On shore winds blow in the Portuguese Man-o-War and they wash ashore. Their sting is unpleasant so keep an eye out for the floating blue bubbles!

Stinging Limu
A blue green seaweed that can cause a blistering skin rash on swimmers who come in contact. It usually is present during the months of June through September on the windward shore beaches.
