Lanikai Beach
This beach was named as one of America's Best Beaches by Dr. Beach in 1996. It is only about a mile long and runs alongside beachfront homes in the Lanikai community. On a clear sunny day the water is a bright green blue, the sun shines through the clear shallow waters and reflects off the white sands below. There are several patches of coral reefs.
However, shoreline erosion varies from wide stretch of white sand beach to seawalls without any sandy shoreline. There are several public right-of-way paths that lead down to the beach located along Mokulua Drive.

Residential Area
The Lanikai neighborhood is known for its million dollar beachfront residences. Although there are approximately 758 homes, only a small percentage are beach front. and many are vacation rentals. The area was once home to watermelon farms that had no running water until the 1920's. Today the homes vary from old time beach homes to luxurious estates yet have similar real estate value.

Mokulua Islands
Two offshore islandsare located about 3/4 mile from the shores of Lanikai Beach. The northern most island is Mokuiki and has a beach landin g that is a popluar destination for kayakers. It is also a State Bird Sanctuary for several seabird species who arrive annually to nest and breed. The ground burrows are often unknowingly destroyed by visitors to the island.

Stinging Limu
A blue green seaweed that can cause a blietering skin rash on swimmers who come in contact. It usually is present during the months of June through September on the windward shore beaches.

Portuguese Man-o-War
When there are high on shore winds the Portuguese Man-o-War blow in and wash ashore. Their sting is unpleasant so keep an eye out for the floating blue bubbles!
