| Kailua Bay A relatively open coastal area, Kailua Bay has some protection from offshore waves by submerged reef that extends across much of the bay and offshore islands. Three subwatersheds drain into the bay; Kawai Nui, Ka'elepulu and Lanikai. The primary water bodies that empty into Kailua Bay are Oneawa Canal and the lowland portion of Ka'elepulu Stream. Storm drains in the Lanikai watershed are the only other direct source of stormwater to the bay. Watershed land use is primarily residential.

Most of the activity takes plance at Kailua Beach Park and include picnicking, sunbathing, swimming windsurfing, kayaking, paddling, boogie boarding, body surfing , surfing, running, pet walking, fishing and boating. Despite heavy recreational use restroom facilities are availabe at Kailua Beach Park and Kalama Beach Park. There are no facilities at Lanika Beach or at the north end at Oneawa Beach. | | |
