Pathways
The dominant current flow in Kailua Bay is to the northeast. The inidicator bacteria found in Kailua Beach sand range in concentrations and likely sources are humans and dogs. Beach sand that is contaminated is carred by wind and swimmers to the nearshore waters. Surface water runoff from the Lanikai subwatershed empty directly into the bay through concrete channels.
